Agorodd Ysgol Genedlaethol Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr yn 1844.
Adeiladwyd y capel, Capel Maes-yr-Odyn yn 1816 ac yn 1844 adeiladwyd ystafell ysgol ynghlwm i’r capel. Dyma ddechrau’r Ysgol Genedlaethol yn Llanfihangel. Parhawyd i addysgu disgyblion yn yr ysgol hon tan 1909.
Roedd yn ysgol gymysg gyda phlant iau a babanod a dechreuodd y llyfr log cyntaf yn 1871. Y pennaeth oedd Griffith Jones ac roedd Arolygiaeth Ei Mawrhydi yn adrodd bod ‘yr ysgol fach hon wedi llwyddo’n dda iawn yn y pynciau elfennol.' (Tudalen 8 ED/LB/58/1)
Yn 1894 roedd yna 54 disgybl ar y gofrestr pan nododd adroddiad Arolygiaeth Ei Mawrhydi ‘Mae angen adeiladu portsh newydd ac ymestyn yr ystafell ar frys.’ (tudalen 418). Ond erbyn Awst 1896 'roedd addysg yn parhau i gael ei darparu yn yr hen ystafell ysgol’.
Fel gyda’r rhan fwyaf o ysgolion gwledig roedd yr absenoldeb amser hwn yn broblem wirioneddol o ran cynnydd disgyblion. ‘Yr hyn oedd ei angen oedd llawer mwy o gydweithrediad ar ran y rhieni o safbwynt anfon eu plant i’r ysgol yn rheolaidd’. (ED/LB/58/2 tudalen 10). Ym mis Mai 1901 roedd Arolygiaeth Ei Mawrhydi wedi gwneud sylw ar y newid rheolaidd mewn penaethiaid yn yr ysgol dros y blynyddoedd. Erbyn Chwefror 1909 roedd yna 56 disgybl ar y gofrestr, ddydd Llun 8 Mawrth 1909, symudodd y mwyafrif o’r disgyblion i ysgol newydd y cyngor a agorodd ei drysau am y tro cyntaf ar y diwrnod hwn. Mae’r cofnod yn y llyfr log ar gyfer dydd Mawrth, 9 Mawrth yn cynnwys ‘ni ddaeth dim disgyblion eto ar y diwrnod hwn’.
Mae llyfr log ysgol newydd y cyngor yn nodi bod yr adeilad newydd wedi’i adeiladu gan Awdurdod Addysg Sir Ddinbych ac agorwyd i’r plant ar 8 Mawrth 1909 gyda 51 disgybl ar y gofrestr. Y Pennaeth oedd John Ellis Edwards. Adeiladwyd tŷ’r ysgol newydd ac roedd y pennaeth yn byw yno erbyn Rhagfyr 1910.
Yn 1919 roedd yna 45 disgybl ar y gofrestr yn yr ysgol ac erbyn 1922 roedd y nifer yn 38. Ym mis Mawrth, 1922 y pennaeth newydd oedd El Evans. Erbyn 1935 roedd y nifer o ddisgyblion wedi gostwng i 28.
Caeodd yr ysgol ar ddiwedd tymor yr haf 1995 gydag ond 9 disgybl. Roedd y rhan fwyaf o'r rhain wedi trosglwyddo i Ysgol Cerrigydrudion.

Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr National School opened in 1844.
The chapel, Capel Maes-Yr-Odyn was built in 1816 and in 1844 a schoolroom attached to the chapel was created. This was the beginning of the National School of Llanfihangel. Schooling continued in this building until 1909.
It was a mixed junior and infants school and the first log book began in 1871. The head teacher was Griffith Jones and HMI reported that ‘This little school has passed a very good examination in the Elementary subjects.’ (Page 8 ED/LB/58/1)
In 1894 there were 54 scholars on roll when a HMI report stated that ‘The erection of a new porch and the enlargement of the room are urgently needed.’ (Page 418). But by August 1896 ‘School is still held in the old schoolroom.’
As with most rural schools of this time absences were a real issue when it came to the pupils’ progress. ‘What has been wanting has been much greater cooperation on the part of the parents in sending the children regularly to school.’ (ED/LB/58/2 page 10). In May 1901 the HMI commented on the school’s repeated change of head teachers during the years. By February 1909 there were 56 scholars on roll but on Monday 8th March 1909 most of the pupils transferred to the new council school which was opened for the first time on this day. The entry in the log book for Tuesday 9th March reads ‘No scholars came again on this day.’
The log book of the new council school notes that the new building had been erected by Denbighshire Education Authority and was open for the children on 8th March 1909 with 51 scholars on roll. The Head teacher was John Ellis Edwards. A new school house was built and occupied by the head teacher by December 1910.
In 1919 the school had 45 pupils on roll and by 1922 the number was 38. In March 1922 the new head teacher was EI Evans. By 1935 numbers of scholars had dropped to 28.
The school closed at the end of the summer term 1995 with only 9 pupils. Most of those transferred to Ysgol Cerrig-y-Drudion.
