Administrative / Biographical History

This school was formally opened on 4 January 1912 by the West Riding County Council as the Adwick Road Council School with a staff of six teachers and head teacher and accommodation for 370 pupils. On the reorganisation of education in the West Riding, it reopened on 9 January 1933 as a Senior Mixed Department with ten teachers and 473 pupils of both sexes.

On 22 April 1963, the premises became the Mexborough County Secondary School, which was created on an amalgamation of the Adwick Road and the Dolcliffe Schools. It subsequently amalgamated with Mexborough Grammar School to become the Mexborough School.
