The first Central Boys School was an undenominational school, opened in 1871 by the Congregationlists in a building behind their George Street Church (please see NC6/4 for other records of this school). This school was taken over in 1898 by the Oxford School Board and was immediately condemned as unfit for use. A new school was built in Gloucester Green and opened in 1901. In 1934 the school merged with the Municipal Secondary School (please see S200/4 for records of this school) to form Southfield Grammar School (pease see S75/8 for records of this school). This school in turn in 1966 merged with the City of Oxford High School for Boys (please see S211/3 for records of this school) to form Oxford School that is now Oxford Spires Academy.
These records were received as part of a transfer of records from the Education Department and also as Acc 4362 in June 1998. Catalogued by Alison Smith in January 2023.
