Scope and Content

The Mothers' Union was founded by Mary Sumner in 1876 and the Oxford Diocesan Branch in 1888. It aims to demonstrate faith throughout the world, by showing the importance of the Christian Family.

The records mainly comprise of Diocesan records, but some Archdeaconry, Deanery and Branch records were included with the deposit. These have been catalogued together as they do reflect the different levels of organisation within the Mothers' Union, which reflects that of the Church of England. Further branch records can be found with the records of the individual parishes.

The records were deposited as Acc 4295 in November 1997 and Acc 5195 in September 2003 . Catalogued by Alison Smith in October 2010.
