Administrative / Biographical History

The correspondence relates to the Royal Geographical Society. In 1914 Freshfield was president. Kathleen's husband Robert Falcon Scott led the British National Antarctic Expedition, 1901-1904 and the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913. On the later expedition he and his companions (Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans) attained the South Pole on 17 January 1912 but perished on the return journey.
