Scope and Content

Records of the Meirionnydd branch of NALGO, comprising minutes of executive and branch meetings (Series 1) as well as minutes, agendas, reports and miscellaneous other records of local administration bodies and committees whose workers were represented by NALGO: Merioneth County Council Local Joint Committee, Local Government Bill Committee, representing Caernarfon, Merioneth and Anglesey Councils in the run-up to the 1974 local government reorganization, and the newly formed Gwynedd Council (Series 2-4).

Other than Series 1, it is likely that much of the collection is duplicated elsewhere.

Administrative / Biographical History

NALGO (National Association of Local Government Officers) was formed in 1905. In 1952, it changed its full name to National and Local Government Officers' Association but kept the familiar acronym. NALGO merged with NUPE (the National Union of Public Employees) and COHSE (the Confederation of Health Service Employees) in 1993 to form UNISON. [Wikipedia, accessed 21 June 2017]
