Scope and Content

These papers form the personal collection of Kath Fry who was secretary and minutes secretary of Manchester City Labour Party from 1984 to 1988, then a Manchester City Councillor from 1988 to 2004. In that time she held positions of chair of Personnel sub-committee (1989), chair of Education committee (1991-95) and deputy of the Children's services committee (1996-1997). Many of the papers have hand annotation in the margins by Kath Fry.

The files were compiled by Kath Fry with assistance of friends before she died (5 May 2011). They have not been opened or checked before passing on to the Records Office. They also form supporting documentation for her book about the Council, due to be titled ''Manchester Council's 1984 Revolution'', in the period 1984 to 1997, which she completed shortly before her death and which, it is hoped, will be published in 2012.
