Scope and Content

There was a workhouse in Henley already by the end of the eighteenth century.

Minute book of the meetings of the committee of the first workhouse, 1780-1784, see BOR3/C/iv/11a and minute book of the committee to relieve the poor in the workhouse, 1791-1801, see BOR3/C/iv/12a. this committee appears ito be the same as the committee dealing with the poor in the parish archives (minute book, 1810-1821, see MSS.Par.Henley St Mary.c1 which developed into the select vestry (MSS.Par.Henley St Mary.c2)
