Scope and Content

'Collections to illustrate the History of Monmouthshire', compiled by Charles Octavius Morgan, FSA (1803-88). Consisting of an introductory volume, 'Of the Silures and other ancient Inhabitants of the British Islands', and six volumes arranged by hundreds (I. Abergavenny; II. Caldicot; III. Raglan; IV. Skenfrith and the Borough of Monmouth; V. Usk; VI. Wentllwch) containing historical and church notes, family histories, a few pedigrees, notes on place-names, printed excerpts, etc. Letters, mainly to Octavius Morgan, tipped in (two conc. Matherne, 1881, 1882, II, fol. 60; conc. genealogy, 1846, V, fol. 92; several, the last being from Octavius Morgan, conc. Welsh placenames, medieval fragments, cromlechs, VI, fols. 112-23 passim).
