Administrative / Biographical History

The correspondence relates to the return of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1907-1909 and the subsequent knighthood awarded to Ernest Shackleton and to the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914-1916. The letter of 13 September 1909 is signed by Asquith's colleague Vaughn Nash.
