Set up in August 1971 this was originally under a variety of titles before becoming the Committee for Hearing Impaired Visits and Exchanges for Deaf People (CHIVE) and placed under the aegis of the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges, which also hosted other committees and organizations, e.g.: Committee for International Visits and Exchanges for the Disabled: papers from these diverse bodies are occasionally included below.
