Scope and Content

This series contains three published texts that were annotated by Waterhouse throughout his career:

- Graves, A. and Cronin, W.V. (1899) A history of the works of Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA. London: Published by subscription for the proprietors by Henry Graves and Co Limited 6 Pall Mall.

- Waterhouse, E.K. (194-1950) A Preliminary check list of portraits by Thomas Gainsborough, Walpole Society, Vol 33, pp1-130

- City of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (1934) Commemorative exhibition of the art treasures of the Midlands. [Exhibition catalogue] 6thd edition [Birmingham]: City of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

It also contains the material Waterhouse interleaved and inserted within the pages of the volumes.

The Graves and Cronin volumes were managed as part of the Library until 2012 when they was reviewed and - found to contain a considerable amount of original correspondence and research notes - re-classified as archive material. Since this date access to the volumes has been supervised.

The City of Birmingham exhibition catalogue was donated to the Centre in 2017 by Charlotte Gere, jewellery historian.
