Herbert Gordon Easton was born in 1916 in Helenburgh, Scotland. His father was William Cecil Easton, a civil engineer, who was deceased by 1934 when Herbert first began attending the University of Glasgow to study medicine. Over five years he took classes in Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Anatomy, Botany, Physiology, Surgery, Materia Medicine, Pathology, Public Health, Medical Jurisprudence, Midwifery and Mental Diseases. Easton graduated with an MB ChB in 1939, and was awarded the following prizes: Medical Chemistry, session 1934-1935, 2nd class certificate of merit; Practical Anatomy, sessions 1934-5 and 1935/6, 1st class certificate of merit; Materia Medica and Therapeutics 1936/7, 1st class certificate Dermatology, 1937, 2nd class certificate;Otology and Laryngology (Western Infirmary), Spring 1938, 2nd class certificate; Psychiatry, summer session 1938, 2nd class certificate; Clinical Surgery, summer session 1938, Seniors, 2nd class certificate; Clinical Medicine (Western Infirmary), winter session 1937-1938, juniors, 1st prize; Midwifery, 1939, 2nd class certificate; Diseases of Children, 1939, 1st class certificate. In 1954 he gained his MD from the University of Glasgow, his thesis was titled 'The diagnosos of diphtheria today'. Herbert Gordon Easton went on to become a General Practitioner.
