The settlement described below was compiled in pursuance of the will of Sarah Duchess Dowager of Marlborough. Her will was dated 11 August 1744 and proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. The Duchess, who died on 18 October of that year, was the widow of John Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough (died 1722).
