This school was built on land given by Merton College in 1850, and was granted to the perpetual curate of St.Cross, as long as the school was used for educating the parish poor. In 1857 Merton College handed over more land nearby, and an infants' school was built.
Re-organisation in 1923 resulted in St.Cross becoming a juniors' and infants' school with 24 children from St.Peter-in-the-East, while its senior girls were sent to St.Peter's for lessons. The senior boys attended various city schools. The school closed in 1938.
