The Manchester Diocesan Buildings Company Limited was incorporated on the 20 January 1883. It was founded in order to acquire lands and buildings, and build upon land, to supply "the various charitable and other institutions connected with the Diocese of Manchester with suitable offices and meeting rooms, and other proper and necessary accommodation, or for any purpose whatsoever, whether connected with such institutions or not", and to borrow money on the security of the Company's property (see Memorandum and Articles of Association, MDBC/1/1/1 (viii), pp 3-4). The Company was put into voluntary liquidation in 1945, and its premises in King Street and South King Street, Manchester, were sold to the Norwich Union Life Insurance Society for £20,000.
