Scope and Content

This collection consists of a photograph and two badges belonging to Nurse Edna (Billie) Spencer (nee Shedel). There are no personal papers included in this collection.

Administrative / Biographical History

Edna (Billie) Clare Spencer (nee Shedel) (1917-2008) nurse. Spencer trained at Archway Hospital in London between 1936 and 1939 and qualified in January 1940. After World War Two she worked for Rubery Owen as an industrial nurse in a factory at Darlaston in the West Midlands, travelling to work on a Velocotte motorbike. Spencer later worked as an audiomatrician, testing childrens hearing in schools throughout Staffordshire for Staffordshire County Council. For the last twenty years of her life she lived with her husband near Swaffham in Norfolk. Whenever she required medical treatment she would wear her SRN badge. Spencer died in 2008 at the age of 91.
