The earliest city inventory (D-TC 1/1) dates from 1696, with some later additions, and lists the charters to the City, titles and similar documents surviving at that date. Many of these, including the earliest city charters, are now missing. Nos. 1-54 below are the contents of D-TC 1/1, the dates shown being those of the original bundles as listed, and not as they now survive. A photocopy of the inventory, marked up to show surviving and missing documents, and with references to place of publication where appropriate, is in the library (LX1/131).
A1/61-64 were formerly City Inventory no. 2, bdles. 42-26, and were transferred from the Conveyancing Section of the Town Clerk's Department in Dec. 1981. They are artificial bundles made up during the compilation of 'Charters and Documents relating to Glasgow' (hereafter cited as 'Glas. Chrs.'), in which almost all the documents are either printed or abstracted. A1/61/1, dated 13 Apr. 1434 is the oldest surviving original document in the City Archives. With each bundle are folders of old wrappers and transcripts, not listed separately.
From A1/201 are listed in Inventory No. 2 (D-TC1/3/2), ie. 201 is Inventory No. 2., bundle 1, etc.
