Account book of Jabez Ride, blacksmith of Mugginton, Derbyshire, 1919-1926

The account book covers the period 1919 to 1926 and is divided into Ride's customers and the work that he did for them with the payment received. The book throws light on an essential element of the rural economy - the blacksmith - as pictured at Mugginton in the early twentieth century.

The account book is written in the hand of Emma Ride, the wife of Jabez Ride, blacksmith at the Smithy, Mugginton, Derbyshire. A 1916 trade directory records a William Ride as blacksmith at Mugginton, Jabez Ride is recorded in that role in a directory for 1941. He retired from the business soon after and moved to Hulland Ward, Derbyshire.

The account book is arranged chronologially.
