Scope and Content

A box containing notes relating to the honors of Limesey, Oilli, Pinkeny, Wallingford and Old Wardon, written on slips of lined paper arranged in 25, 36, 16, 63 and 11 sections respectively. The notes were evidently prepared for a continuation of William Farrer's publication Honors and knights' fees. One bundle is annotated Return to Prof. [James] Tait, Brookdale, Wilmslow, Cheshire.

[William Farrer died before publication of the third volume of Honors and Knights' Fees. The final proofs were read and corrected by John Brownbill and Professor Tait, who noted in the preface, Dr Farrer left a further nine or ten honors in a more or less advanced stage of preparation. It is hoped that some of these, which include Gloucester, Abingdon, Giffard, D'Oyley, and Wallingford, may yet see the light.]
