Stewart Spinners (Galashiels) Ltd was registed in 1955 and was engaged in textile manufacturing. In 1970 the company purchased the carpet manufacturing and trading undertakings of A F Stoddard & Co Ltd . Having taken on these assets, Stewart Spinners changed its name to A F Stoddard & Co Ltd , with the original Stoddard company changing its name to Stoddard Holdings Ltd. .

The company designed, manufactured and sold carpets within the larger Stoddard group until it went into receivership in 2005. It changed name several times, becoming Stoddard Sekers Group Ltd in 1983; Stoddard Carpets Ltd in 1988; and finally Stoddard Group Ltd in 1997.
