Ewart Morien Johns was born in Barry, South Wales. He matriculated at St John's in 1942, achieving a BA in Geography in 1947 before being awarded a Dip.Ed. from the University of London in 1948 and his Cambridge MA in 1949. He lectured at Exeter from 1948 to 1972, and then moved to Lancaster to act, from 1972 to 1983, as the founding head of the new department of the Visual Arts. In 1983 he returned to Exeter (and later moved to South Brent) to devote his time to his art.
Arrangement
The collection came to St John's already indexed, and those numbers have been retained as identifiers of the item. As some material was sent elsewhere, the numerical sequence is not continuous.
