Administrative / Biographical History
Originally from Norfolk, Ruffold worked on ships transporting crushed granite from the Channel Islands to Great Yarmouth for road manufacture. He then worked as a farmer, emigrating to Canada and then returning to England to serve in WWI. He was discharged with deteriorating eyesight. Despite eventually going completely blind, Ruffold compiled many notes on windmills.
