The correspondence contains letters written during the British National Antarctic Expedition, 1901-1904, letters regarding that expedition and the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott) and general correspondence on contemporary polar explorers such as Douglas Mawson (Leader of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, 1911-1914) and Albert Armitage.

The correspondence is arranged alphabetically by recipient.

The Institute holds several archival collections containing letters to Skelton including Sir Clements Markham, Edward Adrian Wilson, Hugh Robert Mill and Kathleen Scott.
