Scope and Content

A regional planning authority for Chipping Norton Borough and Rural District was created under the Local Government Act, 1929; it was known as Chipping Norton Urban & District Councils Joint Town Planning Committee; in February 1933 it was re-named Chipping Norton & District & Woodstock Joint Regional Planning Committee; its jurisdiction was extended to include Woodstock Borough and the former Woodstock RDC (which was abolished under the Oxfordshire Review Order, 1932). A separate Town Planning Committee was set up by the RDC which continued to meet monthly from July 1936 until June 1948; all minutes simply ratified without further discussion the decisions of the regional committee.
