    • 6 ff. Both items are within a small, formerly folded booklet, endorsed "For Sir Nathaniell Rich" (f.6v). The "Declaracion" is in the hand of an amanuensis, with corrections by Wroth; the "Sad encomion" is autograph.

Scope and Content

Comprises Wroth's prose "Declaracion of the life sicknes and death of his dearest and most beloved wife" (ff.1r-3r), followed by his poetic "Sad encomion upon his dearest consorte Dame Margaret Wrothe whoe dyed of a fever at Petherton Parcke in the County of Somerset about midnight of the 14 daye of October 1635" (ff.3r-4v).

Administrative / Biographical History

Sir Thomas Wroth, 1584-1672, was a writer and parliamentarian. He married Margaret, daughter of Richard Rich, and sister of Sir Nathaniel Rich. For a full account of his life, see the entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.
