Comprised of maps and books of reference detailing proposed new routes throughout South Wales. The earliest being the Monmouth and Gloucestershire, South Wales Railway from 1844. Includes a list of engineers and surveyors from 1801 to 1919, with reference to I. K. Brunel’s 1944 Pembroke branch line.
The collection details plans and sections of railways from Usk and Towy Railways (1870 – 1884) to the British Transport Commission of 1956/1957.
The proposed new lines reflect the expansion of industry throughout the area and the need for better integration between centres of production and exportation.
