Papers of Esther Hodge

The archive consists of: correspondence between Esther Hodge and Michael Turnbull on the subject of writing, creativity, feminism, sexual politics in the media and the church.

Esther Hodge was born on 17 Jan 1908. She was educated at Bedford High School, was an undergraduate at St Hilda's College, Oxford and took her doctorate at the University of Manchester. She taught history in secondary schools for girls, including a year in Australia. For twenty years she edited an international quarterly journal 'Women Speaking'. She was Committee Member of the Six Point Group. She became Honorary Secretary (1966-1968) and then President (1968-1947) of the Open Door International for the Economic Emancipation of the Woman Worker. Esther died on 30 Dec 1994.
