Clerks to the Lieutenancy in this period were Henry Marshall, 1840-1870, Sir Richard Wyatt, 1871-1889, 1889-1904, Thomas Weeding Weeding, 1904-1927. Marshall, a Godalming solicitor, became Clerk of the Peace in 1865. Wyatt and Weeding both held the two offices together.
