Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Early in the nineteenth century Abel John (fl. 1797-1830) of Caerwen bought Trehale in the parish of St Edrens, Pembrokeshire, although in 1819 he appears to have paid rent for the property to his mother, Dorothy John. The property passed to his only daughter, Mary, who in 1839 married the Rev. Theophilus Evan Thomas (1802-1874), a Baptist minister, who built the present house, 1844-1845. Abel Thomas (fl. 1864-1869) of The Fort, Bristol, and later of Regent's Park College, appears to have been their son.
