This series consists of most of Stephen Joseph's correspondence between 1951 and his death, although the bulk of the material increases after 1959. There are some files of letters which were arranged by subject, such as letters relating to America and the ABTT, and these remain outside the main body of correspondence. The letters are still in their contemporary order, and represent a fascinating insight into the day to day life of Stephen Joseph.

Scope and Content
Arrangement
Until 1961 the letters were arranged by year; within this they were sorted into alphabetical order. The carbon copy replies to correspondence to SJ were attached to the enquiry they answered. This order has been retained. The descriptions note the more important correspondents, such as famous people and those who were to figure prominently in the life and work of Stephen Joseph.
