Idris Treharne and George W. Hall papers

The collection contains various items relating to metal prospecting and mining activities of Idris Treharne and George W. Hall, including books on mining enterprises and practices as well as histories of south Wales mining.

Idris Treharne 1919 - 1994 was born at Porthyrhyd Carmarthenshire, brought up at Middleton Hall Llanarthne. He worked as a miner at New Dynant colliery Cwm Gwendraeth. A keen amateur geologist, he was an active in South Wales as prospector of potential metal deposits. He was the last solitary miner at Cynnant Lead mine, Carmarthenshire, which closed in 1970’s.

George Hall 1924 – 2013 Was a leading authority on mining practice and history, and the author of The Metal Mines of Southern Wales, The Gold Mines of Merioneth, Mines of the Sixties as well as many researched articles for the newsletter of The Welsh Mines Society.
