Scope and Content

'Outlandishe Proverbs selected out of severall languages & enterd here the 21 August. 1637 At Ribsford. H.H.', probably collected by George Herbert (see The Review of English Studies, Vol. XI [1935], pp. 139-44) and copied by Sir Henry Herbert; poems; extracts from various Latin and other authors quoted to decide '1. Whether ye Lord Protector bee a Tyrant or not. 2. Whether It bee Lawfull to doe Justice upon him wthout solemnitie that Is to kill him. 3. Whether It Is like to prone proffitable or noxeous to ye Comonwealth'; and extracts from sermons and other works, mainly if not entirely in the autograph of Sir Henry Herbert.
