Scope and Content

Diary, apparently of Sir Edmund Prideaux (c.1646-1720), 4th Baronet, MP, of a journey on the continent, beginning at Paris and ending (imperfectly) at Ghent. Most of the entries relate to France (August - November 1710) and Italy (November 1710 - September 1711). Original pagination: (1)~(158).

It has been suggested that this manuscript was the diary of Richard Bellings-Arundell of Lanherne, Cornwall, written by his tutor, George Waters. Bellings-Arundell was the grandson of Sir Richard Bellings (d. 1677) and the son of Sir Richard Bellings (Secretary to Catherine of Braganza) and his wife Frances, daughter and coheir of Sir John Arundell of Lanherne. He matriculated at the University of Padua on 22 September 1711.
