Scope and Content

The Oxford Local Board of Health was set up under the provisions of the Local Government Act of 1858, and took over public health functions from the Paving Commissioners. The Board's jurisdiction extended beyond the city boundary to include areas to the south and east of Oxford. It was abolished in 1889, and its powers were transferred to the new county borough of Oxford.
