Administrative / Biographical History

The RCOG Public Relations Committee was established by Council in July 2005. Its terms of reference were:

To create a better understanding of the role of the RCOG and its relevance to the day-to-day delivery of women's reproductive healthcare to key audiences including Fellows and Members, trainees, medical students, government, media, consumers and the public;

to position the College as the leading and authoritative voice in issues relating to obstetrics and gynaecology and women's health;

to participate in the process of disseminating accurate and relevant College views to the public through the media;

to encourage the provision of timely and accurate information to Fellows, Members and other medical practitioners;

to develop relationships with relevant key agencies and to influence key decision-makers; and

to keep under review College strategy and develop media strategy.

The Committee was to report to the Services Board and to meet quarterly under the chairmanship of the RCOG President. The Committee was renamed the Public Affairs Committee following a meeting of June 2006.
