Edward H. (Ted) Spanswick was an active member of Plaid Cymru in Monmouthshire (later Gwent) from the late 1950s, and participated in the anti-Common Market campaign in the early 1970s. He stood as Plaid Cymru parliamentary candidate in the Monmouth constituency in the general election of February 1974.
