Papers relating to Fürer-Haimendorf's involvement with tribal welfare and development, particularly in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh - most significantly his work as Adviser for Tribes and Backward Classes to the Nizam's Government, 1945-1949, but also relating to his later visits to the area in the late 1970s and 1980s. The material includes a series of correspondence between Fürer-Haimendorf and the Revenue Department of the Nizam's Government (1939-1949); Tour Notes of the Adviser for Tribes and Backward Classes; Gondi Reading Charts for adults; correspondence with tribesmen concerning the alienation of tribal land (1976-1978); reports and articles; addresses; press cuttings; official government reports and publications, and miscelleous loose papers on tribal welfare issues.
