Alice Rhoda Jenkins (nee David,) was born on the 25th Oct 1881 at Vicrage Road, Morriston and was one of seven children. In 1914 she married Mr Harry Jenkins, chief of Gilbertsons Steel Works at Pontardawe. They had one child, a daughter called Lillian. Her husband died in 1940 and their daughter died in 1944. She served as a district nurse for 2-3 years for the Swansea Corporation (now West Glamorgan) in Morriston during the late 1800s and was awarded a probationary nurse certificate in 1905. She qualified as a midwife in 1910 and recieved a Queen Victoria’s Jubilee Institute for Nurses Certificate in 1914. She also served as a district nurse at Stoke Bishop during the late 1920s and early 1930s. She dies on the 6 February 1980, in Morriston aged 99.
