One of Sir Ronald Ross’s widely diversified interests was spelling reform in which he made several attempts at a simple phonetic spelling. His three most important systems were given the names Aesthetic, Musaic, so called because Ross thought it particularly suitable for poetry, and Simplified Spelling.
Because of his interest in the subject of spelling reform Ross was signatory to a memorial on spelling reform which was presented to Mr. C.P. Trevelyan, President of the Board of Education, on 31st July 1925 recommending the adoption of a simple phonetic orthography and was also a founder member of the Simplified Spelling Society.
