Scope and Content

Transcripts and copies (mostly certified by secretaries, deputies or Directors) of correspondence between the Court of Directors of the East India Company, the President and Select Committee at Fort St George, and the Governor-General and Council at Fort William, in their various departments, on matters of all kinds relating to the Company (military, financial, commercial, political, legal and general), with extracts from Minutes and proceedings, General Reports and numerous enclosures. The original groups, each preceded by a List of Papers, have been retained. Several concern Lord Macartney and the Nabob of Arcot, Major-General Stuart, General Mathews and Mr Bristow, Resident at Lucknow.
