Administrative / Biographical History
John Jones Gray was born in Llandegfan in 1857, son of Edward and Eleanor (Ellen) Gray. Edward was known to be a Ship's Carpenter. His family resided in Llandegfan and Bangor, with John Jones remaining on Anglesey where he was a scholar in Llangeinwen. By the 1890s, John Jones had moved to Llangefni with his mother and were working as Ironmongers, his father having passed away by at least 1871. Their shop was located at 1 Bulkeley Square, Llangefni. Their shop, which was colloquially known as 'Siop Gray' well into the mid-20th century, were primarily based in ironmongery, but also diversified into selling housing and agricultural goods. Ellen passed away in 1898, with John Jones marrying Jane Roberts that same year. They had no issue, with John Jones passing away in 1919.
