All University departments were required by the new charter of 1973 to establish departmental boards to administer aspects of academic business. Some departments had established such boards on a voluntary basis before 1973. Typically many departments also established a staff-student committee to communicate with their students. In time, further committees might be added for research, postgraduate and undergraduate teaching etc. Academic governance relating to admission, curriculum, and award of degrees remained the responsibility of the faculties until 2004; Computer Science was a member of the Faculty of Science.
To date, committee minutes have only been deposited for the Board and the staff-student committee (up to 1980).
