Scope and Content

This series consists of 101 exercise books, vocabulary books, rough workbooks and homework books kept by Delia Derbyshire over a five-year period at Barr's Hill School in Coventry. At least eight different subject areas are represented. Probably the most significant items are the formal exercise books containing completed exercises and assignments which have been marked by teachers. These include original essays, creative writing, maths exercises and notes on music and composers, all of which shed light on Derbyshire's developing ideas and talents during her school career.

Where notebooks have been assigned titles by Derbyshire, these are quoted in the 'Title' field. The books are arranged in four subseries based on their type; these are as follows:
