Administrative / Biographical History

The British Arctic Air Route Expedition, 1930-1931 (leader Henry George Watkins) sailed north on the Quest in July 1930. The expedition aimed to explore the East coast of Greenland and part of the central ice plateau. Two de Haviland Moth planes were taken. Bases were set up at Angmagsalik and on the ice cap where meteorological observations were conducted.

Watkins returned to Greenland in 1932 with Riley to continue work in the area. Watkins drowned during this second expedition.
