Scope and Content

This archive consists of handwritten and typed correspondence from the period before the College was incorporated, mainly from and to Sir Arthur Stanley, co-founder of the College of Nursing Ltd and Company Secretary. The letters include arguments for and against the establishment of a College and discussion of the needs of the nursing profession.

Administrative / Biographical History

The College of Nursing Ltd was incorporated under the Companies Act on 27th March 1916. Sir Arthur Stanley was a co-founder of the College along with Dame Sarah Swift, and acted as Company Secretary.
