Scope and Content

The Parish of Shipton on Cherwell lies approximately eight miles north of Oxford, and two miles east of Woodstock. It was part of Woodstock Poor Law Union, and became a united parish with Yarnton and Begbroke in 1986.

The majority of the records in this catalogue were previously held by the Bodleian Library and were transferred to Oxfordshire Record Office in the 1980s. Further additions were made in 1998 (Acc. no. 4138), 2002 (Acc. nos. 4564 and 5075), and August 2006 (Acc. no. 5562).

For those records previously listed in the Bodleian Library catalogue, a concordance of old and new references is located at the end of this catalogue.

Recatalogued by Samantha Crossley, October 2003, updated by Hannah Jones, June 2007.
