presented to Major [Henry] Platt by the Carnarvon Royal Rifles.
The Carnarvon Royal Rifle Corps were part of the militia, a part-time force formed both by levy and by voluntary enlistment, for home defence. Under the Childers Reforms of 1881, the militia were restructured and became associated with regular county regiments, the Royal Carnarvon and Merioneth Militias becoming the 4th (Militia) Battalion, the Royal Welch Fusiliers, with headquarters at the Barracks in Llanberis Road, Caernarfon. Henry Platt was a Major with the Carnarvon Rifles.
