Administrative / Biographical History
Rodericks, solicitors, of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, accumulated papers relating to the Castell Gorfod estate, Llangynin, Carmarthenshire. The Bowen family gained the estate following the marriage of George Bowen of Llwyngwair (1722-1810) and Esther Thomas, daughter of William Thomas of Pentowyn. The Bowens owned Castell Gorfod until 1871, when James Bevan Bowen (1828-1905), son of George Bowen, sold the property to James Buckley of Penfai (1802-1883), Llanelli, the son of the Rev. James Buckley of Cilfig House, Llanelli. The Buckley family continued to hold the estate until the late 20th century.
