Scope and Content

The Banbury Star Cyclists' Club (BSCC) was established in 1891. At this time, there was another cycling club in Banbury called the Banbury and District Bicycle Club which had been established in 1875 and later became known as the Banbury Cyclists’ Club (BCC). It is believed that the BCC and BSCC existed peacefully alongside each other and despite being considered, the two clubs never merged. It appears that the BSCC became the larger club and the numbers of BCC riders gradually decreased. It is thought that the BCC eventually dissolved circa. 1908.

The records in this catalogue mostly relate to the Banbury Star Cyclists' Club and include minute books, results of club events and runs, account books, a club handbook, newsletters, a journal and photographs. There is also a photograph montage of the Banbury Cyclists' Club.

The records were deposited as Acc 7030 in December 2022.

Catalogued by Rosanna Ritchie in April 2023.
